Long-Hand Love Letters And Why They Never Go Out Of Style

I thought with Valentine's Day being this month, this would be an appropriate topic!

         

 Has anyone ever heard the expression “long-hand letters never go out of style”… and wondered why? What makes them so special and timeless? There is something about a letter that a text or email cannot compare to. Text messages are convenient for their fast traveling and easy response. However, whether you are an artist, musician, child, adult, male or female, your text messages will all look exactly the same (not including the various emojis :P). However, handwritten letters, cards, and notes are ALL different. Not one looks like another. Each person has their own handwriting just as everyone has their own distinct voice. It is part of being human and it is a part of each of us. Remember Dr. Suess? “Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you!”. So why do people, as special as they are, want to be the same? Why are handwritten things leaving the society? It takes time and effort, two words young people today do not like. Because of this however, in writing someone a note, it is almost as if you are giving them a part of you. A text saying “I love you” and a note with the same message give a different impression. Someone cared enough to get off their phone and write a note. It seems so simple but it means so much more. Also, a text message just gets deleted sometime, even if the person keeps it a year (at most!). A handwritten message can be kept forever. These are some of the most treasured things! Just like those love letters from the past times especially from the wars that have been saved and handed down through the generations and now we can still see these treasures of the past! We see the stories of how a lover wrote home and the woman always kept these letters under her bed or on the mantle after re-reading them over and over. Imagine if they had the ability to text back during the Civil War or either of the two World Wars! So next time you write or receive a letter, just think about how much more special that is than if it were a text! You are giving a part of yourself to whomever you write!
